After a couple of years skipping it, Salero became to our family (living nearby) the natural first suggestion when we decide to eat out. Excellent food, mixing well creative and traditional recipes, good service, nice ambiance, and a moderate price, always combine to the full satisfaction after each visit.

Affordable style
Ninety percent of the large properties belonging to the wealth people in the good old days were acquired by the state, or dismantled to allow urban plans for mass building. The few that remain depend on tourism to survive, merging the aristocratic image with a qualified service, either as a hotel or a restaurant. This is the case of this restaurant, where we had the first (good) lunch of 2015. |
Nice place, kind service, good food, and a reasonable price. It's interesting to read the history of the place, as stated in their internet page, in my free translation:
This property which once encompassed all these lands until Santo António dos Cavaleiros, where today is the urbanization of the Admiral, has a history very little known and shrouded in some mystery, due to little knowledge about the originator of the property name, a Portuguese Royal Navy Admiral, born in Figueira da Foz or Coimbra, and owning this property here in Lisbon. Our story begins with the arrival of Grandfather Manuel Gaspar Balsa and his son Serafim to Lisbon, looking for a better life than the one they had in Almeirim. He started to live in Frielas and later moved to the Admiral, bringing his. He cultivated the land, producing melons and horticultural culture to sell in Lisbon. Some time later he decided to plant a vineyard, and with the wine he sold snacks made in the ancient Cellar where is now the restaurant. July 13, 1961 he founded the "Casa de Pasto" and...
*Well the story continues in detail, but I will go straight to the end:
The Admiral has since 2002 of a garden with pond, fountain, trees and poolside bar. Here you can take photographs of wedding, christening and parties in general or spend a good chunk of time before or after a meal. There is also a private parking for about 180 vehicles. In 2004 began the restoration of the front of the property rising a startling room with a capacity for 300 people, concluding thus the restoration of dining outlets. Currently the farm of Admiral is a reference in Lisbon and "saloia" cuisine, having one of the largest offerings of this entire region.
Favorite Dish: We were seven, tasted several dishes and all of them were approved. "Broa de bacalhau" and "tornedó à casa" shared the first place.

We needed a bed in Loures in New year's Eve, and considering distance and price this seemed a good choice. It was!
This is more a motel than a hotel, with rooms spreading in a few buildings covering a hill, some constructions with an old look, some other looking more recent. Everywhere we saw signs of old neglected areas with undergoing works.
The general idea may be summarized in the expression "big ideas with small budget". Easy parking, absolute tranquility (no one working in the holiday), cheap price, in our room only the electricity needed urgent revision - no sockets in toilet, only one in the room, and weak lights. Nothing to celebrate, but we may repeat it if needed.
